Blessing of the Home - Birkat HaBayit
Kings 1 5:5 Isaiah 65: 21-23
Song birds, butterflies, fig trees, grape vines, palm and pine trees; A profusion of color with roses and hibiscus are all exquisitely detailed in this Blessing of the Home. Ellen Miller Braun shares with you the tranquility of this picturesque view from her home in the heart of Samaria, Israel.
'They lived in safety, each man under his vine and under his fig tree…And they built houses and inhabit them, and they planted vineyards and eat from their fruits… And my chosen ones shall long enjoy the work of their hands…for they are the seed of the blessed of the L-rd and their offspring with them.'
This Blessing of the Home has these Scriptural verses written 166 times. Why 166? Ellen often uses gematria in her work- where the letters of the Hebrew alphabet have numerical value. One hundred sixty five micro calligraphy inscriptions of these verses create the homes and gardens surrounding the central window. The letters of the Hebrew expression 'L'Chayim Tovim,' which means 'For a good life' equals 165. One more large inscription of the Blessing is added gracing the center of this piece. This inscription represents the singular 'Holy Spirit of G-d,' 'Ruach HaKodesh.' A Blessed Home is truly a Good Life. With G-d's Blessing may the Gift of Life flow into and through each of our homes! Amen
